DAVID EVANS David is a Director of Drew Associates Limited. He is a leading figure in the UK’s rural sector. He was Director-General of the National Farmers’ Union from 1985 to 1996 and then Director of the Federation of Agricultural Co-operatives (UK) from 1996 until December 2001. Previously he was the NFU’s Chief Economics and Policy Adviser and its Deputy Director General. Prior to joining the NFU, he enjoyed a distinguished career in the UK Civil Service serving inter alia as Principal Private Secretary to two Ministers of Agriculture. He served in the European Secretariat of the Cabinet Office; and was Under-Secretary at MAFF including a period as Director of Establishments, responsible for the personnel management of all the Ministry’s staff. This background has given him expertise relating to institution building, the impact of policy on British farm industry, and the EU's policies for agriculture, rural development and enlargement.
