JOHN ARCHER

John is a leading UK soil scientist with over 30 years’ experience of providing advice to farmers, the agriculture industry and policy makers.  For the past 12 years, he has been responsible for scientific, technical and agricultural policy advice to Government on environmental protection, conservation, agri-environment, land use and rural development issues.  He has wide experience of linking policy, research, regulation and practical farming in developing policy advice, particularly on fertiliser recommendations and Codes of Good Agricultural Practice.  He is an expert on nitrate pollution from agriculture and policies to reduce its impact and has extensive knowledge of soils, farming practices, farmers and related agricultural and environmental interest groups.  He has many years’ experience of providing and managing advisory services to arable farmers across the UK.  He is also extremely experienced in the planning and management of research programmes and in exploiting the results of these.

In the last 10 years he has undertaken professional visits to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Slovenia and Poland as well as numerous trips to Brussels.
