PATRICK MURPHY

Patrick is a Director of Drew Associates Limited and a former senior civil servant with 30 years’ service in MAFF.  His early career consisted of Assistant Principal and Principal appointments before serving 4 years as UK Agricultural Attaché in Washington.  On his return to London, he became Controller of Plant Variety Rights and Head of Seed Division and later Head of Land Use and Tenure Division.   As an Under Secretary, he led MAFF’s Milk and Potatoes Group; its Pesticides, Veterinary Medicines, Emergencies and Biotechnology Group; the European Community Group; and the Countryside Group.  In the latter post he was responsible for the complete range of MAFF’s environmental policies and the administration of all its environmental land management schemes.  His substantial expertise in dealing with complex policy issues and his detailed working knowledge of the full range of environmental land management schemes fit him ideally for economic, policy and environmental risk management work.

He has a detailed knowledge and experience of EU farm support mechanisms, CAP, and EU enlargement negotiations with former EFTA applicants (Austria, Finland, Norway and Sweden).

He also has wide experience of public administration at a senior level, including the management of large numbers of staff (including scientific and professional specialists) and of large financial resources.
